About

About

A legacy with over forty years of knowledge and experience.

Our Story

Each destination and experience we create is our legacy. Spanning property development to hotels and hospitality, our approach has always been to observe, study, improve, and craft what people desire.

Three generations ago, we began as an Italian café. From our deep understanding of the restaurant experience and operations, Bisa has expanded into property, hotels, and hospitality. Each achievement builds upon the last. At the core of everything we do are astute business acumen and robust practices, enabling us to identify and capitalise on directly related investments.

Our expertise

Property

Since the early 1970s, we have been designing and delivering lasting buildings. Starting with private houses and adopting a measured approach, we have expanded into serviced apartments, hotels, restaurants, multi-unit residential, manufactured home estates, and subdivisions. While each project is unique and has its own identity, they all proudly represent Bisa.

Hotels

There is something about hotels—once you build one and work in one, you want more! And we’re always on the lookout. For Bisa, hotels are a complete showcase of our passion for hospitality, offering guests opportunities to eat, sleep, and play in various shapes and forms. Beyond these touchpoints, hotels serve as meeting places for local community members to gather, learn, share, and connect with colleagues and friends. Filled with energy and activity, they are magnetic. People form attachments and keep coming back, whether out of habit or the familiar feeling of coming home.

Hospitality

Food and beverage is fun! With our Italian heritage, we create real happiness through simple things done well, like a bowl of freshly made pappardelle with a glass of vino rosso. The skill of not overcomplicating food and showcasing fresh ingredients lies at the heart of our philosophy… and of course, a bloody good negroni!

Investments

We actively seek property-related and bespoke investment opportunities. Whether it’s long-term project finance or short-term funding for project completion, we use our balance sheet to grow available funds for future investments and deliver returns for private investors.

Dan Bisa

Managing Director

Dan Bisa

In 1998 I swapped my ‘banking, finance and long-lunching’ career in Sydney, for a pair of gloves, a shovel and a wheelbarrow in Canberra.  Never wanting to miss an opportunity, I saw fantastic upside in the property market and thus joined my Dad and the family business, starting as it were, right at the bottom!

Taking the reins in the early 2000’s has been a journey. We now have a great team and I love that my role allows me to drive them into new avenues and adventures. My passion continues to be in creating design driven and uncompromising developments, through Bisa Property, alongside curating memorable and unique experiences at all of Bisa Hospitality’s venues. As my Dad says though… “the rules are, there are no rules”! So nothing is off the table.

I live to ski. I love playing tennis especially with my family (currently ranked 4th… out of 4), I am continually trying to crash my MTB, I indulge in good red wine and have a passion for all things Italian (of course). Most importantly, I have a firm commitment to always erring on the side of #attacklife.

In 2011, I decided to move back home to Canberra after 15 years in Sydney to join my brother, Dan in his endeavours to build, open and operate East Hotel. Finally, I saw an opportunity to give back to my family’s business, which was transitioning from construction to property development and hospitality. Prior to this move, I had a successful career in Sydney as a psychologist in private practice.

My role as Brand Director is predominately ensuring that what we produce reflects our core values, our joint vision and our family. Because after all, we are a family owned and run business and it’s personal. Dan and I are very lucky that we like to do business together and that we can enjoy a negroni together too. This is rare these days and we don’t take it for granted. We are both passionate about quality, practicality and good times and we carry this through in all of our projects.

When I’m not at work I love being at home with my husband and kids. I love cooking together, sitting outside with a glass of wine and relaxing. I love Pilates, walking my crazy dogs and skiing… I should really say après skiing!

Rob at work

Throughout my career I have been fortunate enough to work with world-class real estate organisations including Lend Lease, General Property Trust (GPT), Mirvac, the Australian National University and now Bisa Property.
I have led the planning, development, delivery and operations of every asset class. Whilst each project has been unique, all have set new industry benchmarks in design, sustainability, workplace change, timing, complexity of delivery, transaction and operational structures.

Success is built on networks and relationships. I place great importance in listening and collaborating with others.

I strive to challenge the status quo and deliver great property outcomes that are to the benefit of all: user, developer, investor and community.

Being born in Canberra has not lessened my love of the ocean. My quest now is to have my wife and three kids share in this love. If not, there is always our love of rugby… Go Wallabies!

Aye joined BISA Group in late 2021, bringing a lot of experience from both the finance and hospitality worlds. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international business and a Master’s in Accounting. Aye started her career in 2006 as a Graduate Accountant and worked her way up to Senior Accountant with Tax Agent until 2021. Along the way, she also ran a restaurant. With years of experience in both tax and hospitality, Aye has developed a unique skill set as an accountant, chef, business owner, and operations manager.

It’s rewarding for her to make a real impact in both areas, helping the business run smoothly and efficiently.
